Latte macchiato

Latte macchiato

A good latte macchiato has three layers: milk at the bottom, coffee in the middle, foam on top. It isn't three steps – it's one button, as long as the milk is cold and the glass is the right shape.

What you need

  • A JURA machine with a milk system
  • A tall, clear glass – the JURA Latte Macchiato glass, 220 ml
  • Fresh cold milk, ideally 3.5%
  • A JURA glass milk container or a Cool Control

How to make it

  1. Check the milk is around 4 °C. Warmer than that and the foam won't hold.
  2. Put the glass under the milk spout and adjust the spout height so it sits close to the glass.
  3. Select Latte Macchiato.
  4. Let the glass stand for 30 seconds before stirring – that's when the layers separate.

Tips

  • Cold milk gives the best foam. A Cool Control holds it at 4 °C all day.
  • Plant-based drinks work too – barista oat foams best.
  • For a stronger middle layer, use Extra Shot if your machine has it.
